Prof. Tadataka KOIDE, the Honorary Consul, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Mr. Choummaly SAYASONE, the President of the Lao PDR, Who stayed in Japan at that time, and talked with him.

22 May 2008

I met H.E. Mr. Choummaly SAYASONE, the President of the Lao PDR, to talk with him when he stayed in Japan.

Japanese Cleft Palate Foundation (NPO) has supported children in developing countries for long time, because those children could not get good treatment for cleft lip and palate (oral congenital disease) with an economic reason. It has performed the charity treatment on around 200 children in Laos. As Laos appreciated those activities, it agreed opening the Honorary Consulate in Aichi-Gakuin University and I assumed the Honorary Consul. With the above reasons, he spared his time for the meeting with us.

He appreciated our works, saying, "I am pleased to see your efforts. Those activities are very important for us. I hope you to continue your activities." I responded him that we would continue our activities, and would translate 500 medical books in Japanese into Lao for patients with cleft lip and palate in Laos, and that we would give these books to hospitals in Laos. Then, I presented him a "Happi coat", which is a traditional Japanese folk craft and we had a pleasant time.
